Research suggests that exposure to TV commercials can affect the way you behave. Even if your child doesn’t watch your favorite show, a commercial can be broadcast at any time of day and could entice him or her to buy a particular product. Studies have shown that children may express a desire to buy a product after one person in the commercial says they are considering making that purchase.
Digital ads, whether they appear in games, on social media, or on apps, are increasingly targeting children when they play games, go on social media, use apps and in many other ways that children access the internet. These ads may harm children by leading to childhood obesity, hurt their self-image, and increase use of tobacco products, marijuana and alcohol.
